I have just had one mind-blowing week. Out of the blue, I was contacted by a reputable publisher of history based books to write a book on local ghost stories for them. Holy cow! I feel just like Lana Turner! Seriously, who ever expects to have book offers dropped in their laps?
Apparently, they had seen a list of local hauntings on my website and liked what they saw. Even at that rate, I’m a bit surprised, as the listings are very sketchy. I don’t know how anyone can accurately judge my writing abilities on that.
The timing is very interesting. A month ago, life gave me a kick in the pants to leave an unpaid staff writer position I had held with a large paranormal radio station. I thought it was just a sign from the universe that I was working too hard, which I was. Now it looks like it was just clearing the decks to allow me to do this. After I left the radio job, I had been getting a lot of signs from the universe along the lines of “when one door closes, another one opens.” They weren’t kidding! It will be a lot of work, but I should be able to pace myself better so that it won’t be as overwhelming as the radio job.
I’m pretty excited about this (who wouldn’t be?!). I have volunteered at the Columbus Landmarks Foundation for the past few years as a storyteller for their annual ghost tours. I love doing that, and I am good at it. I’ve been spending the past few days trying to get organized. My goal is to get a lot of fresh stories, especially from places that haven’t already been done time and time again. I have a lot of stories from some haunted businesses I have worked at over the years.
This is just so cool!
